Hansen Petite Cavaliers was started in 2019 by Vicky Hansen. Vicky is the daughter of Noel Green, who was the breed founder of the Aussie Bulldog. Vicky grew up in a family of professional dog breeders, and was guided by her father, whose dedication to a particular breed of dog he had created, saw the breed become officically recognized. Where a lot of breeders, more so backyard breeders, only breed for the money, Vicky takes after Noel in the way that she breeds dogs to better the overall position of the breed, and to see her vision of the breed succeed and thrive.
All of Vicky’s dogs are DNA tested, and she selectively breeds to gain the best health, and best appearance.
The Cavalier, like many other breeds, are prone to several common health issues. Vicky has managed to eliminate the major health risks, and due to her selective and opportunistic breeding plan, is entering into the territory of producing unrelated, DNA CLEAR pups. A lot of breeders will tell you that their pups are DNA “clear”, when upon further investigation, you will find that they are “CARRIERS” of certain diseases. Whilst this will not affect the dog at all, it has the ability to pass onto, and produce “AFFECTED” pups. For someone who is wanting a companion pet, with absolutely no chance of breeding the dog in later years, this isn’t an issue. But if the dog is to be bred from, this can be an issue for their offspring, and their offspring down the line. There are many DNA CLEAR Cavaliers out there, but they are also from a small select bloodline. There has been a lot of inbreeding, which creates its own issues outside of the diseases that DNA testing will unearth. Vicky’s prime goal is to breed cavaliers that are DNA clear, unrelated and have a certain set of physical characteristics that are vastly more appealing than that of the average Cavalier.
Vicky always has time to discuss the actualities, realities and facts surrounding Cavaliers, as there is much incorrect information being passed around. Vicky first became involved with Cavaliers over 20 years ago, so has a wealth of knowledge to share…..not only from her fathers influence, but also her own discoveries and developments within the Cavalier breeding program.
